Football Downs Apprentice 31-6 in Homecoming Game
Salisbury,
ranked #19 in the nation, improves to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the Atlantic
Central Football Conference. Apprentice falls to 1-6 overall, 0-3 ACFC. A
suffocating defense and strong special teams play carried the Sea Gulls for much
of the day. Salisbury limited Apprentice to 150 total yards in the game,
including just 31 yards rushing, and blocked four Apprentice kicks. The Gulls
began a 21-point fourth quarter run when Sam Foreman returned a blocked
punt 20 yards for a touchdown with 13:18 left in the game. Junior
kicker Brock Boland accounted for the only scoring in the first quarter
with a 21-yard field goal to give Salisbury the early lead. Pashkevich pushed
the Sea Gulls ahead 10-0 at halftime by capping a 10-play, 68-yard drive with a
five-yard touchdown run at 3:21 of the second quarter. Following
a scoreless third quarter, Foreman put the Gulls back on the scoreboard with his
return following the punt block by Greg Cannon. Salisbury scored again on
its next offensive possession on a 42-yard pass from QB Shai Warsaw to WR
Lesley Wills. Following another punt block, Salisbury’s third of the
day, Pashkevich closed the Sea Gull scoring with a nine-yard TD run at 4:48. Salisbury’s
bid for its second straight shutout fell just short as Apprentice tallied its
only score on a 26-yard pass from Robbie Goodman to Albert Potts
with 12 seconds remaining in the game. Salisbury blocked the extra point kick.
Apprentice tallied 80 of its 150 total yards on that final drive. The Sea Gulls

Swim Teams Ready to Begin New Season
Salisbury will look to six upperclassmen on the men’s team and nine on the women’s team to help lead the Sea Gulls to the top of the Capital Athletic Conference standings this season. The Sea Gulls will start the season with three out of their first four meets against conference opponents. “We are very excited to get going,” said ninth year Head Coach Jill Stephenson. “We have had a chance to get ready through two inter-squad meets and an alumni meet. I think the team is ready for the real competition to start.” The men’s team will look to junior Ryan Kooy (breaststroke), who broke three team records in the 2003 CAC Championships, and junior Doug Vedeloff (freestyle/IM) to provide leadership for its five freshmen and get off to a fast start. A trio of juniors, Alyson Hammond (freestyle), Rachel Lazarick (freestyle), and Meredith Rathkamp (backstroke), will give the Sea Gull women stability throughout the season. “Our versatility this season will be a big advantage for us,” said Stephenson. “It will give us more options on where and when we can swim. The newcomers, particularly, give us more versatility. We can put people in spots where they can do their best.” The Sea Gulls hope to improve from last season, when the men finished 3-6 overall (3-4 in the CAC), and the women finished 4-6 overall (3-4 in the CAC). The men placed sixth and the women finished seventh at the conference championships. “We must work on our team spirit and cohesion. Last season, we had a good group, but they didn’t click,” said Stephenson. “If we can work on our team togetherness and dynamics, it can make our team better all around. Once we do that we can achieve our number one goal of placing higher in the championships.” The Gulls will open their home schedule on Saturday, November 1 against Gallaudet. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Maggs Center.

The Sea Gulls improve to 7-2-2 overall and 3-1 in the CAC while the Spartans fall to
