SU opens
conference play with a pair of wins
WASHINGTON, D.C. –
The Salisbury University softball team opened up Capital Athletic Conference
play with a doubleheader sweep of Catholic University, 4-0 and 9-3, at Cardinal
Field Tuesday afternoon.
The Sea Gulls (18-6, 2-0 CAC) have now won three-games in a row and are winners
of 12 of their last 14 games.
In game one Stacy Davis went the distance as she scattered three hits in
seven innings of work while striking out six to pick up her sixth win of the
year.
Salisbury only managed six hits in the first game but scored in the
top of the first inning to give Davis all the run support she would need. SU
tacked insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings as the Gulls cruised to the
shutout victory.
In game two the Salisbury bats came alive as six different batters reached base
on a hit led by Kelly Waskewicz, Kurisha Hoffman and Nichole Fuqua who
had two, two and three hits each, respectively.
Catholic (11-15, 4-4 CAC) jumped out to an early two-run lead but the Sea Gulls
quickly erased the deficit with five runs over the next two innings to take a
5-2 lead.
SU added four more runs in the fifth and sixth inning as starting pitcher
Kirsten Wells went all seven innings to earn her 10th win of the year.
Waskewicz, Jen Cahall and Hoffman all hit homeruns for the Gulls in the second game.
The Sea Gulls return to action on Saturday, April 7 as they host Mary Washington
in a CAC double-header at Sea Gull Field at Noon.
