Salisbury 8, Gettysburg 5
NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament
National Quarterfinal Round
Sunday, May 09, 2004

Box Score
Salisbury, Md - Senior attacker Amber Stansbury scored three goals and sophomore goalie Ali Goetz (pictured) registered a career-high 22 saves to lead #4 ranked Salisbury to an 8-5 win over #5 Gettysburg in the national quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament Sunday.

Salisbury (16-2) earns its second national semifinal berth in program history and first since 2000. The Sea Gulls carry an 11-game winning streak into Saturday's national semifinal game (11:30 am) against #2 ranked New Jersey in Rochester, NY. New Jersey handed Salisbury one of its two regular season losses, defeating the Sea Gulls 13-8 on March 13.

Goals by Linda Ackermann, Stansbury and Erin McCarthy helped Salisbury to a 3-0 lead midway through the opening half. GC's Jenn Kelly then put the Bullets on the board 8:57 before halftime, but Salisbury countered with goals by Lynsey Bateman and Jessica Wirth to build a 5-1 lead at intermission.

Stansbury's second goal, unassisted, at 38:46 pushed the SU advantage to 6-1 before Gettysburg began its rally. The Bullets scored three straight in a span of three minutes, including two by Kathy Delauney, to make the score 6-4 with 6:26 remaining.

Stansbury then registered her third of the game to push SU's lead to 7-4 at 2:19. Julika Blankenship's unassisted marker with 52 seconds left pulled GC back to within 7-5, but they would get no closer. McCarthy added a free position goal for SU with one second remaining to account for the final score.

Gettysburg out-shot Salisbury 43-21, but Goetz was the difference, especially in the second half as she recorded 17 of her 22 stops after halftime. She made eight saves on free position attempts as GC finished 0-9 on FP opportunities. Gettysburg goalie Liz Borucki finished with eight saves. Gettysburg ends the year with an 18-3 final record.
