Sea Gulls snap four-game skid against CNU
SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team held off a late surge by Christopher Newport University to snap a four-game losing streak against the Captains with a 2-1 victory on Tuesday afternoon at the SU Soccer Complex.

The Sea Gulls (6-0-1) made nine total saves in the second half, eight by goalie Gena Goodson, as they held off a 13-shot second half effort by CNU (6-3).

The Captains controlled the second half with 10 more shots then SU and four more corner kicks then the Gulls but the defense stood strong in the win.

Junior Christina Eury scored both of Salisbury's goals with the first on an assist from fellow junior Dana Passucci at the 25 minute mark. CNU's Sam Ciaravino scored less then one minute later to tie the score at 1-1. The flurry of goals continued as Eury scored her second goal a minute later to give SU the 2-1 lead.

The second Eury goal was set up by senior Kate Weaver who controlled a ball just outside the box and took a shot that was saved by Captains goalie Erin Wojtkun (five saves). Eury was right there for the rebound at the 28 minute mark to give SU a 2-1 lead at intermission.

Salisbury had five first half corner kick opportunities and 12 total shots (nine in the first half).

The last time Salisbury defeated Christopher Newport was October 3, 2000, when the two teams met for the first time ever, and the Sea Gulls won 3-1. The maroon and gold are off to the program's best start since the '00 campaign when the Gulls started 8-0.

SU turns around and hosts Gallaudet University tomorrow (Wednesday, September 26) at 4:30 p.m. at the SU Soccer Complex in a Capital Athletic Conference game.
