SU gets
back on winning track with win over Marymount
ARLINGTON, Va. –
The Salisbury University
women's soccer team rebounded from its first defeat of the season with a 2-0
Capital Athletic Conference win over Marymount (Va.) University on Tuesday afternoon at
Quincy Field.
The Sea Gulls (9-1-1, 5-1 CAC) scored two first half goals which proved to be
more than enough as the maroon and gold improved to 18-0 all-time against the
Saints (6-6-1, 1-3-1 CAC).
Junior Dana Passucci recorded her fourth goal of the season in the 25th
minute to give SU the early 1-0 advantage. Nearly 20 minutes later senior
Erin Casey scored on a feed from sophomore Hillary Grove to give
Salisbury the two goal lead it would not relinquish.
Salisbury registered 14 shots on the afternoon to Marymount's nine and also had
five more corner kicks than the Saints, 8-3.
Junior's Gena Goodson and Kristin Greene
combined for the Gulls' fourth shutout of
the season as the two goalies totaled four saves. Goodson started in net and
improved her record to 5-1-1.
MMU's goalie Lauren Harris made six saves in the loss.
The game ended early as the officials called the contest in the 90th minute due
to lightening in the area.
Salisbury's
next game is a rematch of last season's CAC championship as the Sea Gulls travel
to St. Mary's City, Md., on Saturday, October 13, to face St. Mary's (Md.)
College at Noon.
