Salisbury Tennis Hopes to Serve Up a Championship Season (PREVIEW)
February 4, 2006

2006 ROSTER | 2006 WOMEN'S ROSTER | 2006 SCHEDULE
SALISBURY, Md. - With a strong team returning for 2006, Salisbury University Tennis Coach Randy Halfpap believes the men and women can sweep the Capital Athletic Conference tournament at the end of the season. "We have a lot of experience with our main players in the same roles as last year," said Halfpap. "With our top three players returning for both teams, our goal is to win the conference tournament."

On the men’s side of the court, senior Tyler Robinson (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) anchors the team. "Tyler has been our number one and always plays big for us," said Halfpap.  The number two on the team is sophomore Brendan Kincaid (Cambridge, MD/Cambridge-SD). Kincaid was the CAC rookie of the year in 2005 and won eight of his last ten matches. "He has a great personality and is fun to be around," said Halfpap. "Brendan works hard and his competitive nature is only going to make him better."

Two newcomers on the team are Sasha Felikson (Rockville, MD/Wooten) and Mark Nettlow (Winter Haven, FL/Winter Haven). "We have a great freshman class this year that will make an impact right away," said Halfpap. "Sasha has experience playing juniors and with Mark being a lefty, it will give a lot of people trouble playing his game."

The women’s team returns a lot of experience as well.   The team is lead by juniors Erika Mitry (Summit, NJ/Summit), Jen Rosler (East Moriches, NY/West Hampton Beach), and senior Sammie Smiles (Hagerstown, MD/Williamsport). Mitry, Rosler, and Smiles have at least two years of experience that can lead the team to a conference title after last years third place finish.

Freshmen Anna Marie Kable (Parkton, MD/Notre Dame Prep) and Robyn Wendell (Shiloh, NJ/Cumberland) look to see a lot of action when the season gets underway. "We had a solid recruiting class," said Halfpap. "I believe Anna Marie and Robyn can make a pretty big impact right from the get go."

With both teams core intact from last season, Salisbury has a chance to reach their goals. "For men and women it would be great to be in the top 25 in the nation and to be one of the elite seven teams in our region," said Halfpap. "We have a good situation going with a nice mix of upper classmen and freshman that has our teams heading in the right direction."
